FRC welcomes Anne Dinshah to the coaching staff:

The newest member of the FRC staff learned to row at the University of Notre Dame where she earned a B.A. in American Studies while also playing water polo. Her M.Ed. in Sport Administration from University of Texas launched her own study of America from a coaching launch which included: University of Washington, University of Wisconsin, Stetson University, University of Central Florida, Mercyhurst College, and The Ohio State University. Anne has also coached at Austin Rowing Club where she worked with all levels of rowers, novice to competitive masters, sweep and sculling. Anne is learning to wrestle and is the author of Healthy Hearty Helpings, a vegetarian cookbook. Her new book Dating Vegans: Recipes for Relationships will be published in 2010. Anne built her stone and timber-frame vacation cabin in western New York.
Marlene Royle takes a new direction to concentrate on Roylerow programs:

A Florida Rowing Center coach from 2005-2009, Marlene has retired from our staff to concentrate on her writing and work with Roylerow Performance Training Progams. Marlene was among the first coaches in the United States dedicated to masters rowing. Her career began in 1982 coaching the Boston University Summer Recreational Rowing Program. She also served as Boston University Crew's Varsity Women's Captain in 1985. From 1986-2006, she coached at the Craftsbury Sculling Center and was the center’s associate director from 2004-2006. In 1999, Marlene founded Roylerow Performance Training Programs to individually train rowers, designing their workouts and providing support via email. Roylerow.com was the first online coaching service for rowing. Her publications include Tip of the Blade: Notes on Rowing, Skillful Rowing, and Technical Drills for Sculling. Tech Tips is Marlene's column on the Craftsbury Sculling Center website. Her column "Upstream" appears monthly in the journal, Rowing News. Web site: www.roylerow.com. E-mail: roylerow@aol.com.
Wellington Learn to Row Day set for April 7th, 2009
Free Introductory Sculling Lesson from 4:30-6:30 pm
Offered by the Florida Rowing Center on Lake Wellington
For ages Wellington residents 14 or older
Harvey Rubenstein, Marlene Royle, Gordon Hamilton are your coaches
Participants should plan to arrive by 6:15 pm. The lesson will start promptly at 6:30 pm. We will meet at the boathouse behind the community center. People should come dressed in comfortable clothes but not too baggy. Limited to 10 participants.
An introduction to the total-body sport of rowing a single scull will be presented at the dock and each participant will have the opportunity to get into a boat and try sculling under the guidance of our coaches.

Florida Rowing Center welcomes Roberta to our staff:
Roberta Jaro took on the role of Administrative Assistant for the Florida Rowing Center in September 2008. She will oversee the registration and scheduling of students attending the sculling center. Roberta also holds the position of Chief Operating Officer at United Cerebral Palsy of MetroBoston. She is the wife of Gordon Hamilton, one of the coaches at the center.
In memory of Arnold Guy Fraiman, founder of the Florida Rowing Center:
FRAIMAN--Arnold Guy, 82, of New York City and Norfolk, CT, died September 20, 2008. He attended Poly Prep Country Day School, Princeton University, and Columbia Law School, where he was an Editor of the Law Review. During WWII, he was an Army Lieutenant. He spent three years as an Assistant US Attorney (S.D.N.Y.), and then joined Dewey Ballantine. By Court assignment, he served as Associate Counsel for Rudolph Abel, the Russian spy, receiving an award from State and local bar associations for outstanding service in defense of civil liberties. After a stint as Commissioner of Investigation of the City of New York, he was elected to the New York State Supreme Court (1st Dept.). During his 16 years on the bench, he tried numerous complex commercial and major product liability cases. He belonged to the American, New York, and City Bar Associations. A loyal Princetonian, he was President of his class for its 50th reunion and on the Executive Committee. Arnold played tennis, ran in over 40 marathons, cycled with the Century Road Club Association, and started a sculling school in Wellington, FL. He was a member of The Century Association in New York, and the Doolittle Club and Norfolk Country Club in CT. Arnold is survived by his wife Genevieve, a lawyer, his children Susan and Peter, his grandchildren Sarah, AJ, and Cory, and his brothers Rob and Mel.
